What Are The Key Features of The Britax Marathon ClickTight Car Seat?

What makes the Britax Marathon so impressive is its many features and accessories, particularly its built-in safety features that contribute to a safe and secure ride for your child. Below are some of the key features of the Britax Marathon ClickTight, which we believe are definitely worth recognizing:

  • Unique patented ClickTight Installation System.
  • 2-in-1 convertible car seat, meaning there are two different seating modes, each with their own height and weight restrictions, including:
    • A rear-facing mode
    • A forward-facing mode.
  • 14 position harness that requires no rethreading.
  • 7 recline positions.
  • 2 crotch/buckle positions.
  • 1 layer of deep side impact protection.
  • SafeCell impact absorbing base.
  • Steel reinforced frame.
  • Designed for children weighing from 5 to 65 pounds.
  • Plush foam padding and fabrics to keep your little one comfortable.
  • 1 year warranty and 10 year expiration date.
  • FAA approved for use on airplanes.

You can see why the Britax Marathon ClickTight car seat is so highly rated by parents and families. In particular, we are very impressed with its fantastic safety features, many of which are not included within other convertible car seats. The Marathon also has a stylish and seek design, available in 18 different colors/patterns. This car seat is designed to grow with your child from birth until they are ready to switch to a booster seat.

Will The Britax Marathon Fit In Your Vehicle? The Specifications

  • Total weight: 28.5 pounds
  • Height: 23.5 inches
  • Width: 18.5 inches
  • Depth: 23 inches
  • Seat area depth: 10.5 inches
  • Seat area width: 11.5 inches
  • Shoulder area width: 16 inches

While the Britax Marathon will fit most standard vehicles it is a fairly large and bulky convertible car seat so it will definitely take up some space. The fit of this car seat will ultimately depend on the size of your vehicle, particularly the size of your rear interior.

Parents have also noted that when in the rear-facing mode, legroom is limited for tall front-seat passengers.

We highly recommend taking measurements of your vehicle’s backseat and comparing them to the Britax Marathon’s specifications to ensure a secure and proper fit prior to purchasing. This is particularly important if you plan on having more than one car seat in the backseat.

Will Your Child Fit The Britax Marathon ClickTight Car Seat?

The Britax Marathon ClickTight Convertible car seat will comfortably fit infants, toddlers and young children within a 5 to 65lbs weight range. This means that the seat will grow with your child or for bigger families, can be used by multiple young children.

To assist you in making your car seat decision, we have provided the weight and height specifications for both of the Britax Marathon’s seating modes:

  • Rear-facing position: ideal for infants and toddlers weighing 5 to 40lbs and your child’s head must be 1 inch below the top of the head rest.
  • Forward-facing position: suitable for toddlers and young children within a 20 to 65lbs weight rage and the maximum height is 49 inches.

The Britax Marathon includes a number of adjustable features that assist in ensuring a comfortable ride for your child. These include a 14-position easy-adjust harness that allows you to easily adjust the harness upward with no rethreading required (ever!) and 2 crotch/buckle positions that can be adjusted outward.

One of the only flaws mentioned by parents was that the 2 crotch strap/buckle positions were tight on their little one’s legs. However, other parents spoke about how comfortable their child was. We recommend checking the crotch/buckle position and adjusting it to comfortably fit your child.

The Britax Marathon also has 7 recline positions, which not only ensures a proper and secure fit but also your child’s comfort. The seat includes a bubble level indicator to assist you and it is important to note that if your child is under 12 months, the recline position must be in the light blue range.

Is The Britax Marathon Convertible Car Seat Easy Is To Setup And Install?

One of the reasons we are so impressed with the Britax Marathon is simply for its simple and stress-free installation. Parents rave about how easy it is to setup and install the Britax Marathon with installation taking only a few minutes and no blood, sweat or tears required.

The Britax Marathon is so simple and easy to install ultimately due to the ClickTight installation system. With the ClickTight system there is no rear LATCH installation required.

The ClickTight Installation system is incredibly user-friendly and has even earnt a 5-star rating for ease of use from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Installation of the Britax Marathon can be done in three simple steps:

  1. Open the front of the car seat by pushing then turning one button to lift the seat panel.
  2. Thread the seat belt through the path indicated on the car seat.
  3. Make sure you pull the slack out of the lap belt and that both belts are flat then click the seat shut.

As there are slightly different installation processes for each of the Marathon’s seating positions, we recommend the following for a secure and correct installation:

  • Following the installation steps outlined in the Britax Marathon instruction/user manual.
  • Watching Britax Marathon installation videos on the Britax website.
  • Reading reviews written by other parents either on Amazon or the Britax website.

The only notable issues parents had when installing the Britax Marathon was tightening the seat belt and releasing the ClickTight button.

It is important to note that the Britax Marathon Convertible car seat cannot be installed using inflatable seat belts, which are found in some airplane seats and certain car models.

How Safe Is The Britax Marathon For Your Child?

Safety is every parents first priority and its comforting to know that car seat manufacturers also have your child’s safety as their first priority. The Britax Marathon is a strong, secure, durable and safe car seat and below is a summary of what makes this car seat so safe.

  • Tested to meet and exceed US safety standards.
  • Impact stabilizing steel reinforced frame.
  • Features a SafeCell impact-absorbing base, which reduces the force of a collision by diverting energy away from your child.
  • 1 layer of deep side impact protection, keeping your precious cargo safe in the event of a crash.
  • Patended V-Shaped tether, which works to limit and slow seat rotation by reducing the force of a crash. This protects your child against head, neck and spinal injuries in the forward-facing position.

With a weight limit of up to 40 pounds in the rear-facing position, the Britax Marathon enables you to follow the recommendations of various experts, including NHTSA and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). They recommend that children should be seated in the rear-facing mode up until they exceed the maximum weight and height limit for the car seat. This is the safest mode for your child.

It is important to note that while the Britax Marathon’s rear-facing mode limit is 40lbs, the LATCH weight limit is 35lbs so keep in mind that you may need to stop using the LATCH for your child prior to placing them in the forward-facing mode.

Optional Accessories

While the Britax Marathon is an incredibly impressive car seat, we know that no car seat is perfect and your child’s experience with their car seat can always be improved. Here are some Britax accessories that will do exactly that:

Unfortunately, the Britax Marathon lacks a cup holder but this attachable cup holder will solve this issue immediately. The cup holder is compatible with Britax convertible car seats produced after 2010, which includes the Marathon ClickTight. This cup holder can be attached to either the left or right side of your child’s car seat and will accommodate different sized containers. It is also dishwasher safe for easy and hassle free cleaning!

This Britax seat protector is designed for full coverage of your child’s car seat base to prevent any scuffs, marks and indentations on your vehicle’s back seat. This protector is sturdy, waterproof and no-slip and also has raised edges to contain any spills or crumbs for easy cleaning. Furthermore, the front guard of this seat protector prevents any scuffs or marks from your little one’s dirty shoes. Most importantly, this seat protector is crash tested and approved with all Britax car seats.

What Are The Alternative Options? The Britax Boulevard ClickTight Convertible Car Seat

There are a number of equally impressive alternative options to the Britax Marathon within the Britax family, including the Britax Boulevard ClickTight and the Britax Advocate ClickTight.

Also within the Britax family are the Advocate ClickTight ARB, Boulevard ClickTight ARB and the Marathon ClickTight ARB. The main difference between the ARB car seats and their original versions is the inclusion of the Anti-Rebound Bar (ARB) which is another impressive Britax safety feature. The ARB reduces forces in the event of a crash by stabilising the car seat when in the rear-facing mode.

We have chosen to briefly look at the Boulevard ClickTight as an alternative to the Marathon ClickTight. While both are very similar, they do have slightly different features and prices. Some of these key features include:

  • 2 layers of deep side-impact protection compared to 1 layer with the Marathon, including an energy-absorbing shell and a foam-lined headrest.
  • Click & Safe Snug Harness Indicator, which takes the guesswork out of adjusting the harness by letting you know via the sound of a click when your child’s harness is securely fitted.
  • Available in 7 different colors and styles.

The Good: 2 layers of side impact protection, Click & Safe Snug Harness (not included in the Britax Marathon), Incredibly easy to install.

The Bad: No cup holder(s), Heavy and bulky, Crotch straps may be too short causing tightening and discomfort (similar with the Britax Marathon).
